My Dream Art Studio — And the Joy of Loving Where I Work

Publié le août 21 2026

For the past three years, my office has become much more than an office.

It is where I work every day. It is where I draw, design, think, make mistakes, start over, answer emails, develop new ideas and slowly turn little sparks of inspiration into something real.

And I am incredibly grateful for it.

I often think about how different work feels when you genuinely love what you do.

There are still deadlines. There are frustrating days. There are projects that don't work the first time and ideas that look much better in my head than they do once I put them on paper! 😂

But somehow, when you're doing something you love, even the difficult parts feel different.

Then I Started Dreaming...

Recently, I decided to have a little fun and imagine what my dream art studio and office might look like one day.

And this is what we created.

A beautiful, bright room filled with natural light.

Skylights overhead so I can look up and see the trees and the sky.

White walls and warm natural wood.

A huge drawing table in the middle where I can spread out my illustrations without worrying about taking up too much space.

Shelves filled with paints, brushes, pencils and markers — all organized by colour, of course. 😊

My computer workstation with my two big screens for graphic design.

Plants everywhere.

And on the walls, little wooden shelves displaying the books I've created over the years.

My Netherlands book.

Amsterdam.

Bromont.

Québec City.

Each one representing hundreds of hours of drawing, researching, designing and creating.

When I look at this imaginary studio, I don't just see a beautiful room.

I see a life built around creativity.

The Funny Thing About a "Dream" Studio

Would I love to have this studio someday?

Oh yes.

Give me those skylights immediately. 😂

But creating this picture also made me realize something.

I don't need to wait for the dream studio to be grateful for what I already have.

For the last three years, I have been fortunate enough to have an office where I can work full time.

It may not have giant skylights or endless walls of perfectly organized art supplies, but it gives me something far more important:

a place to create.

Every morning, I can sit down and make something that didn't exist yesterday.

That is pretty extraordinary when you think about it.

When Work Doesn't Always Feel Like "Work"

I believe there is something very special about finding work that fits who you are.

I've always loved drawing, colours, graphic design and creating things.

Now those things are part of my everyday life.

Some days I'm working on a coloring book.

Another day I might be illustrating Québec City, designing a poster, researching history, creating something for a client or dreaming up an entirely new project.

My mind rarely seems to stop creating.

And I've learned not to fight that.

Creativity is simply part of who I am.

When you spend your days doing something that feels connected to you, life becomes a little easier. Not necessarily easy — those are two very different things — but easier to get up in the morning excited about what might happen.

Maybe Dreams Are Supposed to Grow With Us

So I'm keeping this picture of my dream studio.

Maybe one day I'll walk into a room very much like this one.

Maybe I'll sit beneath those skylights with my coffee, turn on my two computer screens, pull out my pencils and wonder how something I once imagined became real.

But until then, I'm going to appreciate the office I already have.

Because I've realized that the most important part of my dream studio isn't actually the skylights, the beautiful wooden tables or even those gloriously organized shelves of pencils.

It's having a place where I can spend my days doing something I love.

And thankfully...

I already have that part. ❤️

What would your dream workspace look like? And if you could spend your days doing something you truly love, what would it be?
