The Arco della Pace, or Arch of Peace, stands in Piazza Sempione beside Milan’s Parco Sempione. It forms part of the historic Porta Sempione gateway, which marked an important entrance into the city.
Designed by Italian architect Luigi Cagnola, construction of the Neoclassical monument began in 1807. Originally intended to celebrate Napoleon’s victories, it was later completed and dedicated to European peace. Today, it is one of Milan’s best-known Neoclassical landmarks.
