Known in French as l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal, the shrine was founded by Saint Brother André. Its history began with a modest wooden chapel built on Mount Royal and blessed on October 19, 1904.
The site continued to grow as increasing numbers of pilgrims came to pray. Today, Saint Joseph’s Oratory is the world’s largest shrine dedicated to Saint Joseph and a National Historic Site of Canada.
