Tower Bridge crosses the River Thames near the historic Tower of London. It is sometimes mistakenly called London Bridge, but these are two separate bridges with very different designs and histories.
Designed by architect Sir Horace Jones in collaboration with civil engineer Sir John Wolfe Barry, Tower Bridge combines suspension sections with a movable central bascule. Construction began in 1886, and the bridge officially opened on June 30, 1894. Tower Bridge
